The Process of Registering Trailers in Maine is Simple
- You already have a trailer registered in another state...
All we need is a copy of the registration sent to us along with a check for the number of years you wish to register it.
That's It!
EXAMPLE: 5 year registration is $99.00 - send check for $99.00 made out to Maine Trailer Registrations plus a copy of the registration. - You already have a title for the trailer in your name...
All we need is a copy of the front page of the title sent to us along with a check for the number of years you wish to register the trailer.
If you have both registration and title in your name, we prefer you send only a copy of the registration.
That's It! - You just bought the trailer and it is a 1995 or newer and weighs 3,001 lbs. or more...
the trailer will have to be titled in Maine - we need the original title signed over to you, a Power of Attorney form (available in MS Word format or pdf format) filled out completely and a check for the registration fee and the title fee.

EXAMPLE: 5 year registration is $99.00 plus title fee is $50.00 - send check for $149.00 ($99.00 plus $50.00) made out to Maine Trailer Registrations plus the two (2) required documents. - You just bought the trailer and it is a 1995 or newer and weighs 3,000 lbs. or less...
We need a copy of the Bill of Sale (if needed, available to download in MS Word format or pdf format) plus a copy of the title or some document showing the trailer weight and a check for the number of years you wish to register the trailer. Maine will not title that trailer due to its weight.
That's It! - You just bought the trailer and it is a 1994 or older...

EXAMPLE: If the trailer has a GVW (weight of trailer plus load) of 2,000 lbs., or less the registration fee is $60.00 for 5 years - if the trailer has a GVW of more than 2,000 lbs., the registration fee is $99.00 for 5 years.
Please note: The Bill of Sale must be very neat and include the date, full name and address of the seller, full name and address of the buyer, year, make, serial number, weight, GVW, cost and color of the trailer and must include seller's signature. - Homemade Trailers...
If the trailer has been previously registered, we need only a copy of that registration and a check for the number of years you wish to register the trailer.
If the trailer has not been previously registered, we need a typed formal statement from you that has the following in it:- Date built
- Dimensions: length, width and height
- Weight
- GVW (trailer weight plus load it can carry)
- Type of trailer (utility, landscape, boat, etc.)
- VIN number (call us if VIN not available)
- PLEASE NOTE: We DO NOT register live-in or camper trailers.
